Sharp leaving Illinois Press Association to take on new leadership role

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Press Association today announced that Josh Sharp, who has been with the organization since 2004, will depart on Sept. 13.

Sharp, the IPA’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, is leaving to become the leader of the Illinois Petroleum Marketers Association and Illinois Association of Convenience Stores in Springfield.

"I’ve known Josh for years and have had the pleasure of working with him both as a newspaper publisher and now with IPA," said Sam Fisher, the IPA's president and chief executive officer. "He has been a tremendous asset for the newspapers of Illinois, and we will miss his efforts at the Capitol."

Among other responsibilities with the IPA, Sharp has been the organization’s chief legislative liaison, working on behalf of the association’s member newspapers to advocate for legislation promoting government openness and transparency.

"We will be securing the services of a contract lobbyist within the next few weeks to protect the legislative interests of our members," Fisher said.
